Due to climate change and an increase of extreme weather conditions agriculture and viticulture are facing a great challenge. Droughts and flooding occur more often and the overarching goal is to avoid crop failures.
Therefore my master thesis focuses on how the presence of trees in vineyards could help to protect vineyards from extreme climate due to climate change. A main emphasis is on microbial communities, especially arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF), which undergo a symbiosis with vine roots. The hypothesis is, that if trees are found within a vineyard, such AMF communities are more divers and may also be beneficial for the vine. Furthermore the impact of planting trees in vineyards on berry quality, stress resiliency, as well as nutrient and water availabilty for vine will be analysed.
